The Winter Sports Season has come to a close, let’s have a look at how the teams did.

Girls Varsity Soccer:  The girls finished the season with a 4-11 record, however, with a roster of only 12, the girls fought hard all year.  Coach Gronau and the returning players are hoping some girls will come out next year and give soccer a try to help build the program.  A few highlights, Senior Rickelle Vetzel has committed to play at Florida Southern, and on Senior Night this year, Julie Hanlon score her first career goal.  Sarah Stalter also scored her first career goal this year for the ‘Canes!

Boys Varsity Soccer:  The boys had an amazing season finishing 15-3-2 and second in the district.  The team also finished second in the District Tournament and advanced to FHSAA Regional Play.  The boys season came to an end with a loss to a very good Shorecrest team.  Senior Alex Stafford set many records and is in line to receive many awards for his performance this season.  The future of boys soccer at BMCHS looks very solid.

Girls Varsity Basketabll:  Coach Anita Davis took over this year and immediately lead the team to their best record in history at 15-9.  Despite some injuries to some key players throughout the year, the girls fought hard and had a great season.  They advanced to District semi play and lost to State Final Four Contender Seffner Christian.  Graduating only 2 seniors, the girls look to be strong for years to come.  Sophomore Brielle Downing continues to set records for the ‘Canes adding 394 points to her current record of 478.  That gives Brielle 872 for her career in just 2 years.  Next season will be exciting as she is sure to break 1,000 points for her career.  What a Milestone that will be!

Boys Varsity Basketball:  They boys continue to improve and and advanced to District Semi play for the first time in as many years; finishing with a record of 12-15.  The Boys continue to shatter team records with their up-tempo play and Junior Will Potosky has already broken many rebounding and scoring records.  Like the girls, the Boys are graduating only one senior and look to continue to improve next season.  The highlight of the year is the boys beating Rival Carrollwood Day School three times this year, and in the District Tournament holding CDS to 2 total points in the first half.

The Varsity Cheerleaders finished up the basketball season and are done for the year.  The team did a great job providing support for our teams during the football and basketball seasons.  Congrats and Good Luck to Brooke Baptiste and Rachel Verscharen who cheered their last game as a Hurricanes.
